Blauwe kleur is een van de drie primaire kleuren. Het kan worden gemengd met rood en groen in verschillende chroma en verzadiging om elke kleur in de kleurrijke natuur te synthetiseren. Op het kleurenscherm is blauwe LED een essentiële kleur. Evenzo wordt blauw vaak gebruikt als basiskleur voor landschapsverlichting. Blauw is ook een van de hoofdkleuren van groeilampen voor planten.
