Het is een lage LED die een golflengte van licht uitzendt die onzichtbaar is voor het menselijk oog. De 980 Nm LED wordt ook gebruikt in glasvezelcommunicatie, omdat deze in staat is om gegevens over lange afstanden te verzenden met weinig signaalverlies. 980 nm infrarood LED worden veel gebruikt in soorten toepassingen zoals medische industrie, externe controlesysteem of een andere applicatie -ect .
